Actor Ahn Bo-hyun is drawing emotional responses from viewers with his restrained yet deeply affecting portrayal of a devoted uncle in tvN’s Monday–Tuesday drama ‘Spring Fever’, offering a moving depiction of parental love that goes beyond blood ties.

Earlier episodes revealed that Jae-gyu was still a high school student when he first took responsibility for his nephew, personally walking him to school and learning to become a caregiver long before he was ready. His sacrifices were never framed as heroic acts, but as instinctive choices made out of love.
In Episode 9, which aired on February 2, the drama delved deeper into Jae-gyu’s inner pain. Determined to shield Han-gyeol from the hurtful truth that his mother abandoned him, Jae-gyu chose to bear the burden alone swallowing harsh realities so his nephew would not have to.
One of the episode’s most affecting moments came when Jae-gyu demanded that his sister take full responsibility for her absence on one condition: that Han-gyeol must never know the truth. “If Han-gyeol’s heart gets hurt, even by 1 millimeter, I won’t forgive it,” he said, making it clear he was willing to shoulder all blame himself. The line resonated strongly with viewers, capturing the essence of Jae-gyu’s love: fierce, self sacrificing, and protective to a fault.
The episode also revisited a painful memory from Jae-gyu’s past—arriving late to Han-gyeol’s childhood school performance and finding the boy standing alone on stage, fighting back tears. The moment lingered as a lifelong regret, underscoring Jae-gyu’s quiet guilt and his determination to never fail his nephew again.
Through these flashbacks, ‘Spring Fever’ reframed fatherhood not as a role defined by biology, but by presence, responsibility, and emotional commitment.
Ahn Bo-hyun’s performance has been praised for its emotional restraint. Rather than dramatic outbursts, he relies on controlled expressions, pauses, and unspoken emotion to convey Jae-gyu’s inner world. His portrayal of a man who loves deeply but expresses it clumsily has struck a chord with audiences.
