Hyun Bin on Falling in Love With Son Ye-jin: “It Happened Naturally”

Appearing as a guest on Jung Jae-hyung’s YouTube channel Fairy Jae-hyung on December 21, Hyun Bin spoke openly about his marriage, his career, and the subtle way love entered his life. During the conversation, Jung remarked that the chemistry between Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin in Crash Landing on You felt so genuine that it seemed impossible for it not to reflect real emotions.

“It Was After Everything Ended”

According to Hyun Bin, their relationship did not begin while cameras were rolling. Instead, it developed after their professional schedules had settled. He reflected on their first collaboration in the 2018 film The Negotiation, explaining that the project offered very little opportunity for meaningful interaction. Most of their scenes were filmed separately, and they only crossed paths briefly during monitoring sessions or meals.

That experience left him with an unresolved feeling as an actor. “Acting while looking at a monitor and acting face-to-face in the same space are completely different,” he said. “I kept thinking it would be nice to meet again in another project.”

Similar Timelines, Natural Understanding

Hyun Bin explained that their connection grew smoothly because they shared similar stages in life and career. Being close in age, having long-standing acting careers, and holding comparable views on work allowed conversations to flow without effort. “There was no need to explain things in detail,” he said. “We understood each other naturally.”

Rather than a dramatic confession or emotional turning point, their bond strengthened gradually shaped by routine conversations, mutual respect, and time spent together in a professional yet comfortable environment.

“Like Clothes Slowly Soaking in Water”

When asked directly what made him fall in love with Son Ye-jin, Hyun Bin emphasized that there was no single defining moment. “It wasn’t one point,” he explained. “Time just passed naturally. As we worked and talked, it happened like clothes slowly soaking in water.” He noted that because there was no dramatic realization or sudden shift, the relationship felt especially sincere. The absence of a clear beginning made it feel grounded, steady, and real.

Hyun Bin also spoke about the idea of collaborating with his wife in the future. While he joked that recreating something like Crash Landing on You would be impossible, he didn’t rule out other possibilities.

Life Beyond the Spotlight

When asked about family life, Hyun Bin described himself simply as “an ordinary dad.” He spoke fondly of their young son, now just over three years old, and laughed when asked how he would feel if his child expressed interest in acting one day. “That would take some serious thought,” he admitted with a smile.

Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin first met through The Negotiation and later reunited in Crash Landing on You, which aired from 2019 to 2020. Their professional partnership eventually grew into a personal one, leading to marriage in 2022.
