After years away from the screen, Son Ye-jin is finally making her long-awaited comeback and she’s doing so as a working mother navigating an entirely new chapter of life.
While director Park Chan-wook’s latest project and Lee Byung-hun’s intense performance are already drawing buzz, much of the spotlight is also firmly on Son Ye-jin herself. Her upcoming film No Other Choice marks her first movie in seven years and her official return after marriage and childbirth.

Son Ye-jin married fellow actor Hyun Bin in 2022, welcoming their first son later that same year. Since then, she stepped away from acting to focus on motherhood a decision she now reflects on with both gratitude and honesty.
“This is my comeback after three years,” she shared. “But it also feels like I’m returning as a completely different person.”

Speaking candidly, Son Ye-jin described how becoming a mother reshaped her entire identity.
“From one to ten, everything has changed. There’s nothing in my life that hasn’t changed,” she said with a laugh. “Sometimes I can’t even remember what kind of actress I was before.”
Her daily routine now looks very different pushing a stroller to the playground, chatting with other moms, and receiving quiet words of encouragement from longtime fans.
“Mothers from the local kindergarten give me coffee and say they’re fans. They’re always surprised to see me looking so… messy,” she joked.
Gone are the days of hiding under hats and sunglasses. Son Ye-jin explained that motherhood has made her more open, more grounded, and more connected to everyday life.
“My life now is being a mother first,” she said. “But I’m also happy to be a mother who works and an actress who has a career.”
She added that juggling work, training, filming, and childcare has deepened her respect for mothers everywhere.
“Mothers are doing something truly incredible. I didn’t fully understand it until I experienced it myself.”
Naturally, fans are curious about whether the couple plans to expand their family. Son Ye-jin didn’t shy away from the question.
“My heart wants three children,” she admitted with a smile. “But as a working mom, it’s not easy.”
She emphasized how precious this stage of her child’s life feels, explaining that she often stays up until 3 a.m. waiting for her son to fall asleep before heading straight to set.
“This time will never come back,” she said. “Childhood doesn’t return.”
Despite exhaustion, Son Ye-jin says motherhood has made her stronger.
“You mature whether you want to or not,” she reflected. “Becoming a mother makes you solid. It forces growth.”
Her words resonate deeply not just with fans, but with working parents everywhere.
