BTS’ “Butter” Surpasses 4 Million Points on Oricon Weekly Singles Chart, Setting Historic Record

BTS has once again made history in Japan. The group’s 2021 smash hit Butter has officially surpassed 4 million cumulative points on Oricon’s Weekly Combined Singles Ranking, marking a milestone no other overseas artist has achieved before.

According to BigHit Music, the achievement was confirmed in the latest chart update covering February 2 to 6. The Oricon combined ranking calculates results based on streaming figures, digital downloads, and other performance indicators.

First Overseas Artist to Cross 4 Million Points

With “Butter” crossing the 4 million point mark, BTS becomes the first international act in Oricon history to reach that figure. They are also only the second artist overall to achieve the milestone.

Oricon highlighted the continued streaming performance of both “Butter” and its accompanying track Permission to Dance, which have maintained strong numbers years after their initial release.

Streaming Power That Hasn’t Slowed Down

When “Butter” was first released, it debuted at No. 1 on Oricon’s Weekly Streaming Ranking and remained there for eight consecutive weeks. The track has now surpassed 600 million cumulative streams in Japan alone, demonstrating long-term listener engagement.

“Permission to Dance” also secured eight consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the same chart and is approaching the 500 million stream mark. Nearly four years and seven months after release, both songs continue to generate consistent streaming activity.

This sustained performance underscores BTS’ enduring popularity in Japan, one of the world’s largest music markets.

Jin’s Japan Concert Release Tops Charts

Beyond “Butter,” BTS member Jin also saw strong results in Japan. The concert recording #RUNSEOKJIN_EP.TOUR in JAPAN ranked No. 1 simultaneously on Oricon’s Weekly Blu-ray Ranking and Weekly Music DVD & Blu-ray Ranking.

When originally held, Jin’s Japan fan concerts sold out across all sessions. The Osaka Kyocera Dome event notably filled upper-tier seating and limited-view sections, achieving what local media described as a complete sellout.

Anticipation Builds for New Album “ARIRANG”

The group’s momentum continues as BTS prepares to release their fifth full-length album, ARIRANG, on March 20. The 14-track album is said to reflect the group’s identity and current artistic direction.

Following the release, BTS will host a comeback event titled “BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG” at Gwanghwamun Square on March 21. The event will be livestreamed via Netflix, signaling the group’s continued global reach.

With “Butter” still setting records years after its debut, BTS’ sustained performance in Japan reinforces the group’s long-term impact. Rather than fading after peak release cycles, their catalog continues to generate measurable milestones, redefining what longevity looks like for international artists in the Japanese market.
