BTS is just one day away from one of the most anticipated comeback events of the year, but an unexpected update about RM has fans both worried and emotional.
On March 20, BigHit Music officially announced that RM sustained an ankle injury during rehearsal for “BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG”, the group’s large-scale comeback performance set to take place at Gwanghwamun on March 21.
According to the agency, RM was immediately taken to the hospital after the incident and received a detailed medical examination. He was diagnosed with a sprain involving the accessory navicular bone, partial ligament damage, and a bone contusion. Medical staff advised that he wear a cast and minimize movement for at least two weeks to focus on recovery.

Despite the injury, RM reportedly expressed a strong desire to fully participate in the performance, especially given the significance of the location. The Gwanghwamun stage marks BTS’s return with their full-length album ARIRANG, and expectations around the event have been exceptionally high, with massive crowds anticipated.
However, after careful discussion with medical professionals, the agency confirmed that RM’s on-stage movements will be limited to prevent further injury. This means that choreography and certain performance elements will be adjusted, though he will still appear on stage.
Even with these restrictions, RM is expected to join the performance and connect with fans as much as possible. The statement emphasized that he is determined to be present and share the moment with ARMY, even if he cannot perform at full capacity.

The timing makes the situation even more impactful. BTS has just released their new album ARIRANG, with the title track “SWIM” drawing attention for its cinematic visuals and emotional storytelling. The Gwanghwamun concert is not only a comeback stage but also a symbolic reunion moment, expected to gather hundreds of thousands of fans in one of Seoul’s most iconic locations.
In addition to the Gwanghwamun performance, BTS is scheduled for a series of major global promotions, including a special Spotify collaboration event in New York and appearances on U.S. television programs such as The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. These activities highlight the scale of this comeback and the group’s continued global influence.

BigHit Music reassured fans that the artist’s health remains the top priority and that full support will be provided for RM’s recovery. At the same time, the rest of the members are preparing intensively to deliver a complete and memorable performance.
While fans may not see RM perform at full strength this time, his decision to still take the stage has already sparked strong reactions online, with many praising his dedication and calling the moment “even more meaningful.”
As BTS prepares to take over Gwanghwamun, the focus is not only on the scale of the comeback, but also on the message behind it: showing up, even when it’s not easy.
