Actor Kim Soo-hyun has officially cleared his name after a thorough law enforcement investigation revealed that the scandalous accusations made against him by conservative media outlet Garo Sero Institute were entirely fabricated using artificial intelligence. On May 27, 2026, Kim Soo-hyun’s management agency, Goldmedalist, released an official statement following the formal arrest of Kim Se-ui, the representative of the controversial YouTube channel.

The Legal Arrest of Kim Se-ui

The Seoul Central District Court officially issued an arrest warrant for Kim Se-ui on May 26. Judge Bu Dong-shik explained that the warrant was granted due to the severe gravity of the offense, noting a high risk that the suspect might destroy evidence or attempt to flee the country.

Kim Se-ui faces multiple severe criminal charges under South Korean law, including:

  • Defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act (spreading false rumors)
  • Violation of the Stalking Punishment Act
  • Violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes
  • Intimidation and Extortion

Uncovering Fabricated AI Audio and Fake Chat Logs

The legal battle between Kim Soo-hyun and the Garo Sero Institute began in March of last year. Kim Se-ui hosted public press conferences claiming that Kim Soo-hyun had been in an illegal romantic relationship with the late actress Kim Sae-ron while she was still a minor, starting from 2016 when she was just 15 years old. The channel also claimed that financial pressure regarding debt repayment from Kim Soo-hyun was a direct cause of the actress’s tragic passing, forcing Kim Soo-hyun to temporarily halt filming for his highly anticipated Disney+ original series Knock-Off.

However, Kim Soo-hyun’s agency countered that the two had briefly dated as consenting adults from the summer of 2019 to the autumn of 2020.

A deep forensic analysis by police investigators ultimately proved that the evidence presented by the Garo Sero Institute was entirely fake. The investigation confirmed that the KakaoTalk text conversations released during Kim Se-ui’s press conferences were heavily edited logs belonging to completely different individuals. Most shockingly, the voice recordings of the late Kim Sae-ron used to back up the channel’s claims were discovered to be completely fake audio tracks generated using generative AI technology.

Fulfilling a Promise to the Public

Reflecting on the painful year-long legal process, Goldmedalist expressed deep gratitude toward the police and court officials who relied on objective science to uncover the truth.

The agency stated:

“Exactly one year ago during his public press conference, Kim Soo-hyun promised the public, ‘I will not ask you to just blindly believe me, I will make sure to prove the truth.’ He spent the last year entirely focused on keeping that promise. Finally, through strict legal procedures and a thorough investigation, the truth has been validated. We want to thank everyone who trusted him and waited for this moment.”
