BTS announces they will not attend the 2027 Grammys... "Music should transcend borders and languages"

According to The Hollywood Reporter, BTS announced that they will not be submitting nominations for this year’s Grammy Awards, and Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. has issued a statement regarding this. Harvey Mason Jr. said, ″We regret to hear that BTS has decided not to participate in this year’s Grammy Awards process, but we understand and respect their decision as music creators.″ BTS conveyed their stance through Instagram, stating, ″We hope that music is heard and loved for what it is, without being divided by region or language.″ The Grammy Awards recently announced the establishment of a new Asian Pop category, which is intended for performances of Asian pop music originating from or widely recognized in Asia, including K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop. In relation to this, some fans have pointed out that this category might prevent Asian artists from being fairly recognized in the general categories. In response, Harvey Mason Jr. stated, ″Submitting music in genre categories does not exclude nominations in the general categories,″ adding, ″Artists can be recognized in both genre and general categories.″ He said, ″The Grammy organization exists for music and everyone who makes music,″ and ″We will strive to listen to the voices of the global music community regardless of geographic or linguistic boundaries, and to honor and celebrate all artists who move the world through music.″ In addition to BTS, other well-known artists such as The Weeknd, Drake, and Morgan Wallen have also chosen not to submit Grammy nominations in recent years.
