Gong Hyo-jin returns to MBC after 15 years as the 'married woman killer'... transforms into the sniper 'Kingfisher'

Gong Hyo-jin returns to MBC dramas after 15 years, showcasing a transformation in image in ″Married Woman Killer.″ In this work, she takes on the role of Yoo Bo-na, a ruthless sniper and working mom, challenging herself in the noir genre rather than romantic comedy. MBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama ″Married Woman Killer″ will premiere on the 31st at 9:50 PM. At the production presentation held on the 30th at MBC Sangam in Seoul, Gong Hyo-jin, Jung Joon-won, Lee Sang-yi, Moo Jin-sung, Choi Woo-sung, Lee Eun-saem, and director Yoon Jong-ho attended. Broadcaster Park Kyung-lim hosted the event. The drama depicts the story of a working mom with the most brutal job in the world who returns to work after a three-year parental leave. Yoo Bo-na, played by Gong Hyo-jin, is the head of the third sales team at Durumi Electronics and a sniper known as ″Kingfisher.″ She is also a housewife with a journalist husband and a 4-year-old daughter. She struggles to protect both her beliefs and her family’s happiness. Gong Hyo-jin said, ″Fans of the webtoon must have many imaginations. While reading the webtoon, I thought the charm point of the character Yoo Bo-na was how well she hides her true feelings. I created the character imagining various aspects like that.″ She added, ″Since it’s a killer role, the amount of dialogue was significantly less than usual. So I felt less stressed while filming.″ She also said, ″There was a gap between the killer and the family. I think the charm of our work lies in the good balance of showing a mother going to work within her everyday life.″ Director Yoon Jong-ho explained, ″Unlike other crime thrillers that focus on men, our drama focuses on a working mom who has the job of a killer.″ Gong Hyo-jin mentioned that she referred to the expressions and lines from the webtoon for this character. She added, ″I tried to create Bona as fans might have imagined her.″ She also said, ″It was difficult to naturally navigate the dual gap of being a killer but having a daughter waiting at home and a loving husband.″ This drama, marking Gong Hyo-jin’s return to MBC after 15 years, has also been mentioned alongside her previous works such as ″Pupil,″ ″Pasta,″ and ″The Greatest Love.″ She expressed, ″I can’t believe it’s been 15 years. I think there were many works on MBC where I could develop my characters.″ The highlights of the drama include Yoo Bo-na’s double life and the relationship between wife and husband (played by Jung Joon-won). Gong Hyo-jin said, ″We filmed for over eight months, so it contains a lot. As an MBC drama returning after 15 years, it will dominate this summer and fall.″ Director Yoon Jong-ho also said, ″We worked hard. I hope it becomes a work that allows people to reflect on the precious people around them.″
