'Hope' surpasses 4 million viewers 19 days after release... ranks 3rd domestically

The movie ’Hope’ surpassed 4 million cumulative viewers around midnight on the 2nd. This is the third highest number of viewers among domestic releases this year, following ’A Man Who Lives with the King’ and ’The Swarm.’ Distributor Plus M Entertainment announced that ’Hope’ exceeded 4 million viewers on that day. According to the Korea Film Council’s integrated ticketing system, the film recorded 4 million viewers as of the morning of the same day. ’Hope’ has maintained the number one spot in Korean film reservation rates for 30 consecutive days, and on August 1st, when foreign films continued to be released, it achieved a seat occupancy rate of 44.3%. The production cost of ’Hope’ is approximately 70 billion won, with the break-even point estimated at 6.5 to 7 million viewers. The cast includes Hwang Jung-min, Jo In-sung, Jung Ho-yeon, Lim Hyun-sik, Eum Moon-suk, Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, and Taylor Russell. The film begins with Beom-seok (Hwang Jung-min), the head of the Hopohang outpost in the Demilitarized Zone, receiving a report of a tiger sighting, which puts the village on high alert. Subsequently, an unknown creature appears, and Beom-seok and Seong-ae (Jung Ho-yeon) fight desperately to protect the village. Seong-gi (Jo In-sung) and his group become prey to monsters in the mountains. ’Hope’ was invited to the 79th Cannes Film Festival, marking director Na Hong-jin’s return to the Cannes red carpet after 10 years since ’The Wailing.’ It is reported that the Cannes Film Festival extended the submission deadline for the film due to high interest.
