It has been revealed that the representative performance videos of BTS were removed from the official Grammy Awards website. After BTS announced their refusal to submit entries for the 69th Grammy Awards next year, the official Grammy website no longer features the stage videos of ″Dynamite″ from 2021 and ″Butter″ from 2022. Both videos remain available for viewing on BTS’s official YouTube channel. Regarding the video removal, some have raised suspicions that it was a ’retaliatory measure’ by the Grammys. Fans and some global artists expressed support for BTS’s stance on social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), launching hashtag campaigns like ″You can erase it from the site, but not from history.″ Fellow artists including Epik High’s Tablo and director Maggie Kang of ″K-pop Demon Hunters″ also showed their support for BTS. BTS, under the joint name of all seven members, stated their refusal to submit entries, saying they hope ″music is heard and loved as music itself rather than being divided by region or language.″ This decision is related to the Recording Academy’s newly established category, ″Best Asian Pop Music Performance.″ This category targets Asian music such as K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop, and only songs containing one or more Asian languages qualify as nominees. Since BTS’s new full-length album ″Arirang″ is primarily composed in English, some have criticized this rule as being aimed specifically at BTS. Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. explained, ″The intention is simply to celebrate the diversity of Asian pop music, not to discriminate.″ The Grammys have not issued an official statement regarding the circumstances or criteria for the video removals. Meanwhile, it has also been suggested that the videos may have been deleted along with other artists’ past performances during a routine cleanup of past performance footage by the Grammys.
