BTS member V has built a reputation as one of K-pop’s most influential style figures, but his approach to fashion may be simpler than fans expect.
As the leading face of Champion’s new global “True Champion” campaign, V revealed that he does not follow a fixed formula when choosing his clothes. Instead, he relies on instinct, comfort and a strong understanding of what feels natural to him.
“My style is pretty instinctive,” V told GQ.
That short description explains much of what makes V’s fashion so compelling. Whether he is attending a luxury fashion event or appearing in a relaxed T-shirt away from the cameras, his wardrobe rarely feels like a costume. It reflects his ability to move between different worlds without losing his identity.

Champion officially introduced V as the central figure in its latest global campaign, titled “True Champion.”
According to the American sportswear brand, the campaign recognizes people shaping contemporary culture through originality, individual perspective and lasting influence.
V appears alongside a wider group of athletes, artists and cultural figures, but his part of the campaign focuses heavily on personal expression. Champion describes his campaign story as one of meeting important moments with authenticity, confidence and quiet determination.
For V, being a “true champion” is not about forcing himself to appear special. It means resisting the pressure to become someone else and finding confidence by remaining honest about who he is.
That message closely matches the public identity he has developed throughout his career. While V is known internationally as a member of BTS, his solo music, photography, fashion and interest in older forms of art have gradually revealed a creative identity that is distinctly his own.
Champion’s official campaign page presents the partnership as a celebration of that individuality.
V is frequently associated with luxury fashion, carefully tailored suits and visually dramatic event appearances. His everyday wardrobe, however, is reportedly much more relaxed.
In his GQ interview, V explained that he has always enjoyed combining different styles instead of limiting himself to one category. Although he finds high fashion inspiring, he is equally attracted to clothing that feels easy and comfortable.
Away from cameras, he often wears simple T-shirts and relaxed pieces at home. That preference is one reason Champion felt familiar to him rather than disconnected from his everyday life.
The campaign photographs capture that less formal side of his style. V is shown in relaxed sportswear, varsity-inspired layers, comfortable knitwear and casual separates. The clothing is presented inside warm, lived-in spaces instead of a conventional gym or stadium.
The result feels closer to an intimate portrait of V than a traditional sportswear advertisement.
His favorite item from the collection also reflects the quiet details that define his styling. V selected a gray Champion top featuring a red logo, explaining that the contrast adds personality without overwhelming the otherwise casual design.
Red has appeared repeatedly in his fashion choices. Rather than covering an entire outfit in the color, he often uses it as a carefully placed accent.

V’s style has rarely depended on a single aesthetic.
He can move from classic tailoring to vintage-inspired clothing, oversized casualwear or more experimental runway pieces. That flexibility has made his outfits difficult to reduce to one predictable formula.
Yet there is consistency beneath those changes.
V appears most comfortable when a look contains something personal, whether that is an unexpected color, an unusual silhouette or a reference to an earlier period of fashion. His outfits often balance polish with ease and luxury with nostalgia.
Working with different fashion houses and observing a wide range of collections has helped him understand which elements suit him. However, he ultimately chooses what catches his attention and feels right rather than following rules for their own sake.
This instinctive approach is also why the Champion partnership works. The brand’s heritage in American sportswear gives V familiar pieces that he can mix with the more refined and vintage elements already present in his wardrobe.
Clothing is only one part of the story.
The “True Champion” visuals surround V with cassette tapes, records, headphones and musical instruments. In one image, he holds a trumpet. In another, he stands beside a tower of cassettes.
These objects are more than nostalgic decorations. They reflect V’s well-established interest in jazz, vinyl records and analog culture.
V told GQ that he is attracted to the warmth and nostalgia associated with analog media. Although digital speakers offer convenience and high-quality sound, he prefers the more personal experience of listening to music on vinyl.
That preference was also evident in his 2023 solo album, “Layover.” The project’s relaxed blend of R&B, jazz influences and understated vocals offered a contrast to the large-scale performances often associated with BTS.
“Layover” presented V not simply as a global pop star, but as an artist drawn to atmosphere, intimacy and slower forms of listening. The Champion campaign extends that same world into fashion.
The records, cassettes and softly styled interiors make the photographs feel connected to his musical taste rather than created around an unrelated advertising concept.

V’s fashion influence does not come only from wearing expensive or highly recognizable pieces. It comes from making different styles feel personally connected.
The “True Champion” campaign succeeds because it does not attempt to replace that identity with a new one. Instead, it focuses on the clothing V might realistically choose during quieter moments away from the stage.
For Champion, the partnership connects the brand’s sportswear heritage with one of the world’s most visible style figures. For V, it provides another way to express the values already present in his music and wardrobe: comfort, nostalgia, curiosity and individuality.
His definition of style is uncomplicated. He notices what attracts him, chooses what feels right and trusts his own reaction.
In a fashion culture often driven by rapidly changing trends, that confidence may be the real secret behind V’s enduring influence.
