The group Big Bang has been selected as the inaugural ambassador for the Space Aviation Agency. On the 14th, the Space Aviation Agency announced the appointment of Big Bang as its ambassador. The agency stated that it believes Big Bang can help communicate the agency’s vision, key policies, and projects to the public in a more approachable way and strengthen communication. It also explained plans to promote various communication activities to encourage public participation and empathy in major projects such as the 5th Nuri rocket launch scheduled for the second half of this year and the 2030 moon exploration. Activities to send the public’s dreams and support messages into space through the Dream Capsule Project during the 5th Nuri rocket launch were also announced. Oh Tae-seok, head of the Space Aviation Agency, said, ″We selected Big Bang as an ambassador to create a new challenge in Korea’s space aviation together with the public,″ and expressed the intention to expand public interest and participation through various communication activities in the future. Opinions were divided within the industry regarding the ambassador selection. A representative from a satellite company evaluated that Big Bang is suitable as an ambassador due to their high recognition. On the other hand, another representative pointed out that Big Bang is a group that has been involved in several controversies in the past, such as drugs, the Burning Sun gate, and illegal business operations, expressing concerns about a government agency appointing entertainers as ambassadors. This representative also questioned the decision to appoint popular entertainers instead of scientists, researchers, experts in related fields, or young scientific talents. A representative from the Space Aviation Agency acknowledged Big Bang’s past controversies and stated that after about a year of discussions and considering the current member composition, they appointed Big Bang as ambassadors. They also mentioned that they plan to continuously communicate with the management company to respond to any risks related to the entertainers.
