Cats Eye tops Billboard 200 with 'Wild'... Fourth achievement for a female group

Cats Eye has reached number one on the US Billboard main album chart, the Billboard 200, with their third mini-album, ″Wild.″ Billboard announced in a chart preview article on the 22nd (local time) that ″Wild″ debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart dated August 29, 2026. This is the first time Cats Eye, who debuted in 2024, has topped this chart. With this achievement, Cats Eye became the fourth girl group to top the Billboard main chart since 2020, following Black Pink, NewJeans, and TWICE. This accomplishment surpassed works such as Phoebe Bridgers’ ″Lost Weekend″ and Stray Kids’ ″This and That.″ Additionally, Cats Eye also ranked second on the UK Official Albums Chart. The Billboard 200 chart ranks albums based on ″album units,″ which combine physical album sales, streaming equivalent albums (SEA), and track equivalent albums (TEA). ″Wild″ recorded 170,000 album units, including 145,000 in album sales, 24,500 SEA, and 500 TEA. ″Wild″ is an album expressing Cats Eye embracing their inner selves as they move toward instinct and freedom. The title track ″Fruity″ features participation from renowned producers such as HYBE chairman Bang Si-hyuk, pop star Ed Sheeran, Omer Fedi, and Blake Slatkin. The album was released on the 14th. Cats Eye was formed through the survival program ″The Debut: Dream Academy,″ a joint project between HYBE and Geffen Records under Universal Music in the US. They debuted in the US in 2024 with hit songs like ″Gnarly″ and ″Gabriela,″ and were nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards last February. They also won three awards, including ″New Artist of the Year,″ at the 2026 American Music Awards and received two nominations at the 68th Grammy Awards. Starting with ″Gnarly,″ Cats Eye has consecutively charted five songs on the Billboard Hot 100: ″Gabriela,″ ″Internet Girl,″ ″PINKY UP,″ and ″Animal.″ Including their collaboration with LE SSERAFIM and Eyelet, this marks their sixth chart entry overall. ″Animal″ debuted at number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated August 8, surpassing the previous record of number 28 set by ″PINKY UP″ in April. ″Animal″ is a pop track that expresses inner instincts and wildness through lively rhythms and dynamic beats. Their previous works ″Internet Girl″ and ″PINKY UP″ drew attention with funky electronic sounds, EDM-influenced repetitive hooks, and bold performances, while ″Animal″ highlights the members’ diverse vocal tones and matured vocals. Cats Eye operates based on HYBE’s ″multi-home, multi-genre″ strategy and ″K-pop methodology,″ led by chairman Bang Si-hyuk.
