A woman in her 30s who illegally purchased and sold about 2,600 tickets using a macro program for the BTS Gwanghwamun comeback concert and others has been referred to the prosecution without detention. The Cyber Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 26th that they handed over Ms. A, a woman in her 30s, to the prosecution without detention on the 21st on charges of violating the Information and Communications Network Act, obstruction of business, and violation of the Performance Act. According to the police investigation, from April 2023 to March this year, Ms. A used an automated program to illegally purchase about 2,600 tickets for idol concerts and others under accounts registered in the names of family members and acquaintances, then resold them at a premium. She is also accused of booking 9 tickets for the BTS Gwanghwamun concert on February 23 using the same method. It was confirmed that the 9 BTS concert tickets seized by the police during this process did not actually lead to illegal resale. The police applied for pre-indictment seizure and confiscation of approximately 442 million won in criminal proceeds obtained from Ms. A’s crimes. The police stated that they will continue to strictly investigate illegal ticket purchases and distribution activities. Meanwhile, under the revised Performance Act and National Sports Promotion Act effective from the 28th, offenders involved in illegal sales will face strengthened penalties, including fines of up to 50 times the sales amount.
