Woo Ji-won's daughter Woo Seo-yoon wins the 70th Miss Korea crown, "I gained confidence"

Woo Seo-yoon, daughter of former national basketball player Woo Ji-won, was selected as the winner at the 70th Miss Korea pageant. On the 22nd, Woo Seo-yoon took first place at the Miss Korea competition held at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Majoring in Fine Arts at Tufts University in the United States, she advanced to the finals as the Seoul·Gyeonggi·Incheon Sun (善) winner. The Sun title went to Oh Soo-min (Jeolla Gwangju Jeju), and the Mi title was awarded to Lee Min-sol (Busan Ulsan). Since childhood, Woo Seo-yoon has been a familiar face to viewers, appearing on various entertainment programs such as SBS’s ″Star Junior Show,″ tvN’s ″Nest Escape 3,″ and tvN STORY·Tcast E Channel’s ″My Child’s Love 2.″ Born in 2003, she is the eldest of Woo Ji-won’s two daughters. In a recent interview with Hankook Ilbo, Woo Seo-yoon revealed that she wanted to stand on the Miss Korea stage but thought it did not suit her. She said, ″Considering my image and the fact that I have been an athlete, I thought it wasn’t a place for me. But I found out that Miss Korea values each person’s story and individuality more than appearances. That’s why I was able to take on the challenge.″ She also said, ″I never expected to receive this much attention. When I open Instagram, I see a lot of news. My shoulders are getting heavier. I will show a good side that meets the expectations of the support I have received.″ Regarding some netizens raising suspicions of plastic surgery, saying her face looks different from before, Woo Seo-yoon stated, ″Among the many comments that come with attention, some are hurtful, but I try not to get hurt. I hope to have an opportunity to show my true self in the future.″ She said she learned the importance of being true to herself during the preparation process for the competition. ″Rather than a perfectly polished appearance, I tried to approach every step as Woo Seo-yoon,″ she said. She added, ″Honestly, I had a complex about my tall height throughout my life, but challenging Miss Korea turned my weakness into a strength. Not just my height, but many things were like that. Going through the competition gave me confidence, and I experienced how weaknesses I didn’t want to show became strengths.″ Woo Seo-yoon also expressed her desire to raise her voice where society needs it and where help is needed as a female leader. She said, ″I dreamed while watching Miss Korea seniors when I was young. I think I could become a dream for younger girls just like they were for me. Since it is a stage many people dream of, I know its value and will do my best diligently even in places that are not visible.″
