Jo Kwon: "During my military service, my family's battle with cancer and Kim Hye-soo's support were a great strength"

Singer Jo Kwon appeared on YouTube’s ″Shin Yeo-seong″ and shared an anecdote about actress Kim Hye-soo, expressing his gratitude. Jo Kwon said that during his military service, both his mother and father were battling cancer; his mother had her toe amputated due to melanoma, and his father underwent four surgeries for colorectal cancer. He added that he was going through financial difficulties at the time and was in the midst of contract renewal discussions with his company. Jo Kwon revealed that Kim Hye-soo, upon learning this, said, ″I just hoped you would be discharged healthy without getting sick,″ and provided him with a lot of support. He explained that the reason he was barely active last year was also due to caring for his father. Jo Kwon and Kim Hye-soo first connected through the 2013 drama ″The Queen of Office,″ and since then, Kim Hye-soo has consistently visited and supported Jo Kwon’s musical performances. Additionally, Jo Kwon mentioned that due to the trainee investment recovery system in his early debut years, he had almost no income for three to four years. He said, ″After finishing a special recording of ’Three Wheels’ and returning home, I found my mother washing her hair with cold water because the hot water was cut off. That’s when I really decided to work hard to earn money.″ Afterward, he appeared on variety shows such as ″Three Wheels,″ ″Star King,″ and ″We Got Married,″ gaining love under the nickname ″Kkap Kwon.″ During the broadcast, Lee Kyung-sil and Jo Hye-ryeon asked 38-year-old Jo Kwon about marriage. Jo Kwon replied that he has always had a desire to marry, and during his long-term relationship, he was fully willing to get married, but currently, he is not thinking about marriage because he does not have someone he likes. He added, ″I also want to remain a cool artist without getting married,″ and said he finds happiness in various activities such as acting and musicals. He especially shared that when he performed the role of Angel (D.A. DeMaris) in the musical ″Rent,″ wearing 15cm high heels on stage, he felt like a hero. Jo Kwon also revealed stories from his ″Three Wheels″ days, including receiving many notes from girl group members asking him to dance, and that he rarely shaves because he doesn’t grow much beard. On this day, together with Lee Kyung-sil and Jo Hye-ryeon, he shared various experiences including his 13-year-old audition days, eight years as a trainee, and recent activities with 2AM.
