Monsta X showcased a musical transformation through the mini-album ″The Phase.″ This album features a total of six tracks, including the title song ″Magic,″ characterized by a diverse range of genres such as pop dance, R&B, punk, and acoustic. The album’s lead track ″Magic″ expresses the feeling of attraction by likening it to magic, blending rhythmic guitar sounds, strong beats, and the members’ delicate vocals. Forbes USA praised the song, saying it ″expanded its territory by moving between familiar hip-hop bass, ballad, and pop dance.″ Active participation from the members was also notable during the album production process. Jooheon contributed to the lyrics and composition of four tracks, including ″Magic,″ leading the musical direction, while Hyungwon included his self-composed song ″Sweet Night, Sweet Morning.″ Member Shownu said, ″Contrary to the strong and clear image, I wanted to leave curiosity with simple yet unique elements. I incorporated the emotions accumulated so far and the ambition to keep moving forward.″ Minhyuk stated, ″I wanted to slightly twist the image that comes to mind when you think of Monsta X. I broadly expressed it so that people would think, ’We can expect this kind of side in the future.’″ There were also changes in performance aspects. Emphasizing the balance between vocals and rap, the choreography included intuitive movements inspired by magic, swinging pendulums, and powerful arm stretches. ″The Phase″ ranked 6th on the iTunes Worldwide Album Chart immediately after its release and topped the iTunes Top 100 K-pop Album Chart in 11 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and Türkiye, as of the 7th. It also entered the top ranks on charts in 14 other countries such as Indonesia, Germany, and Canada, demonstrating its influence in overseas markets.
