Actor Heo Nam Jun and ATEEZ member San have finally appeared in the same frame, giving fans the “Northern Duke” meeting they had been requesting.
On September 16, Heo shared a photo of himself standing beside San on social media with the short caption, “A chance encounter.”
In the picture, the two stars face the camera while giving matching thumbs-up poses. The casual photograph quickly attracted attention because fans have long compared their strong facial features, sharp expressions and imposing physical presence.
Some viewers even joked that the two looked like relatives or characters drawn by the same artist.

For international fans unfamiliar with the expression, “Northern Duke” is more than a nickname for someone who looks serious.
The term comes from a popular character archetype found in Korean fantasy-romance web novels and webtoons. The “Duke of the North” is typically a powerful nobleman who rules a cold and dangerous territory.
He is often portrayed as tall, physically strong, emotionally reserved and intimidating to everyone except the story’s main romantic interest.
Over time, Korean fans began using “북부대공상,” meaning “Northern Duke type,” to describe celebrities whose visuals resemble that character. Dark features, defined facial lines, broad shoulders and a cold but charismatic atmosphere are usually part of the image.
Both Heo Nam Jun and San have repeatedly been mentioned as real-life representatives of the archetype.
The resemblance is not necessarily about the two stars looking identical. Instead, fans believe they share the same visual mood.
Heo is known for creating intense screen presence through his height, deep-set features and controlled expressions. San brings a similar energy to ATEEZ performances, where his sharp gaze and powerful physique often become central elements of the group’s stage concepts.
Seeing them together made those comparisons feel even more convincing.
“Someone needs to cast them in a Northern Duke drama,” one fan suggested. Others commented that they looked like cousins or “characters from the same visual universe.”
Some fans also wondered whether the unexpected meeting could lead to more than a photograph, including a possible challenge video together.
Heo Nam Jun recently appeared as Cha Se Gye in the SBS drama “Brave New World,” which concluded in June.
He has also selected tvN’s upcoming drama “The Whale Star” as his next project. Scheduled to air in 2027, the series will feature Heo as independence activist Song Hae Soo.
The role could give the actor another opportunity to display the intensity that has made him a natural fit for serious and commanding characters.
San, meanwhile, continues his activities as a member of ATEEZ. The group released its 14th mini album, “GOLDEN HOUR: Part.5,” in June and has maintained its global momentum through music and performances.
Although one is building his career through television and the other commands stages around the world, their surprise meeting showed why fans have continued placing them in the same visual category.
The photo may have been the result of a simple chance encounter, but for fans of the “Northern Duke” archetype, it felt like a long-awaited crossover.
