In a video of Lee Young-ja’s visit to Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market, which was posted on her YouTube channel ’Lee Young-ja TV,’ a conversation scene with an 84-year-old elder was deleted from the footage. The scene began with the elder, who did not recognize Lee Young-ja, saying, ″You look like Lee Young-ja,″ and ″You’re prettier than Lee Young-ja″ while they were talking by chance at the market. When Lee Young-ja asked, ″Mom, do you like Lee Young-ja?″ the elder replied, ″I don’t like Lee Young-ja. She’s too full of herself, it ruins my appetite.″ Despite the unexpected harsh criticism, Lee Young-ja smiled and responded, ″That makes me hungry,″ and the conversation continued cheerfully. Later, another vendor at the market recognized Lee Young-ja, but the elder never realized her true identity until the end. After the conversation, Lee Young-ja treated the elder to coffee, saying, ″When else would I get to buy you coffee?″ She also joked about her age when asked, saying, ″I feel like I’ve even experienced the Korean War.″ In the video, Lee Young-ja shared her experience of selling salted mackerel to raise 500,000 won for her college tuition and stories about working at various five-day markets. At the market, she tasted sea urchin, oysters, sushi, and even tried her hand at fish preparation and slicing sashimi, receiving praise from the on-site instructor. After the video was released, some viewers had mixed reactions to the elder’s remarks. Some netizens left critical comments directed at the elder, and on the 21st, the production team edited the video to remove the controversial scene. Through a pinned comment, the production team stated, ″Since the elder is an ordinary person unfamiliar with broadcasting or cameras, we feel very heavy-hearted watching the situation where unintended misunderstandings or excessive criticism are directed at them.″ Lee Young-ja also expressed that she did not want the elder to be hurt. The production team asked viewers to show consideration for the elder, saying, ″We adjusted the segment so that everyone can watch comfortably.″ The pinned comment was later deleted, and the reason for its removal was not disclosed.
