The statement continued, "There is absolutely no Chinese capital that has flowed into the production and investment process of our company and 'Assassination(s)'."It added, "'Assassination(s)' is a work independently planned and produced with domestic capital under the leadership of domestic production staff and creators." The company further stated, "While we respect criticism and diverse opinions about the work, we hope that information that differs from the facts will not be amplified or reproduced, as matters concerning investment and production capital are objectively verifiable facts."Previously, Rep. Joo Jin-woo of the People Power Party raised suspicions of Chinese capital inflow into 'Assassination(s)' through his YouTube channel the previous day. Rep. Joo mentioned a report that Hive Media Corp. selected a consortium of Mirae Asset Securities PE and CLSA Capital Partners Korea as the preferred negotiator in 2023 and was pursuing investment of 40 billion won. CLSA is a financial company acquired by China's CITIC Securities.Based on this, Rep. Joo argued, "We must also consider the possibility of behind-the-scenes manipulation by Chinese capital." Subsequently, suspicions that Chinese capital was invested in the production of 'Assassination(s)' began to spread through online communities.Meanwhile, 'Assassination(s)' was also recently embroiled in a historical distortion controversy. The film depicts the story of tracking the suspicions and perpetrators behind the assassination of Madam Yuk Young-soo, which shocked South Korea on August 15, 1974. However, some criticized the film for distorting actual history, as it included scenes suggesting the possibility of former President Park Chung-hee's side or the Korean Central Intelligence Agency's involvement in the incident.In response, the production team stated on the 28th, "This is a fictional film that reconstructs the historical event that occurred in 1974 by adding cinematic imagination based on various records written about the incident at the time."
