The familiar trope of a contract romance with a third-generation chaebol has been enhanced with the fresh imagination of 'electric abilities.' Furthermore, the chemistry between Kim Young-kwang and Chae Soo-bin, who are returning to romantic comedy after a long time, has been foreshadowed. Attention is focused on whether 'Please Charge Me' can capture the hearts of viewers worldwide. The press conference for Netflix's new original series 'Please Charge Me' (written by Song Yu-chae, directed by Park Soo-won) was held at Hotel Naru Seoul MGallery in Mapo-gu, Seoul on the 1st at 11 AM. Director Park Soo-won and actors Kim Young-kwang and Chae Soo-bin attended the event and shared various stories related to the work.'Please Charge Me' is a romantic comedy about Baek Ho-rang (played by Kim Young-kwang), a man whose artificial heart battery has run out, and Na Bo-bae (played by Chae Soo-bin), a woman with electric abilities. It is based on a web novel of the same name. The work combines the unique theme of 'charging' with romance. It depicts the process of two people, for whom love was difficult for different reasons, building a relationship as they become essential to each other.Director Park Soo-won said, "I think charging is something we all feel the need for at least once in our lives. We live as if we're drained due to busy work, but by watching the drama, people might think, 'I want to be charged like that,' or 'It would be a valuable life if I could be someone who charges others like that.'"Kim Young-kwang plays Baek Ho-rang, a third-generation chaebol whose artificial heart battery has run out. Baek Ho-rang is the third-generation chaebol leading a resort under South Korea's top conglomerate. He is a perfect man in both work and appearance, but he has a hidden weakness: he has an artificial heart.Actor Kim Young-kwang leads the drama in 'Please Charge Me' as the third-generation chaebol Baek Ho-rang. /Reporter Kim Sung-ryeolKim Young-kwang decided to appear in the work because he was drawn to this almost cartoon-like setting. He explained, "Baek Ho-rang is a character who plans everything from A to Z, but he suddenly faces a crisis when his battery-powered heart runs out. Na Bo-bae helps him overcome that crisis, and they enter into a romance for the contract period."However, the third-generation chaebol is a familiar character, having been featured in various romantic comedies. Kim Young-kwang also pondered how to differentiate his character from existing third-generation chaebol characters. He said, "There are many third-generation chaebol characters appearing in various works, and I couldn't completely avoid that. While playing Baek Ho-rang, the most important aspect I focused on was sincerity. I thought that sincere, calm, and understated expressions would make people believe he is a third-generation chaebol."He also put effort into expressing the character's external aspects. Kim Young-kwang said, "As he is a third-generation chaebol, almost all the costumes were custom-made. This character is a 'plan man,' so he has a morning routine, and for that, he paid a lot of attention to his attire, such as wearing stylish silk pajamas."Chae Soo-bin plays Na Bo-bae, a drama writer whose romance has been drained due to her electric abilities. Na Bo-bae harbors loneliness in her heart because she is different from ordinary people, but she maintains a bright and charming personality.Chae Soo-bin said, "Because electricity flows through my body, I cannot touch anyone. So, as a drama writer, I create scripts, but since I have no dating experience, I get stuck every time I try to write a romance. When I meet Baek Ho-rang, the 'human rubber glove,' and he says he'll die without me, I think I have to save him."'Please Charge Me,' starring actors Kim Young-kwang (left) and Chae Soo-bin, will be released in its entirety on Netflix on the 9th. /Reporter Kim Sung-ryeolWas it difficult to express the unique setting of electric abilities through acting? Chae Soo-bin recalled, "It's not like Na Bo-bae uses her abilities by saying, 'Electricity, come out!' It only happens when I feel flustered, sad, or scared. The lighting and the people around me helped a lot each time, so I didn't have to put in too much effort."The contractual relationship, which began out of mutual need, gradually transforms into romance. As such, another point of interest in the work is the chemistry that Kim Young-kwang and Chae Soo-bin will show. Director Park also expressed satisfaction, from their "face-pairing" to their acting synergy.Director Park said, "Their face-pairing was like 'Nick and Judy' from 'Zootopia.' Their acting synergy was also very good. Sometimes, we didn't cut and just kept watching. Their ad-libs were incredibly funny, and there were many moments where they showed real 'chemistry,' so I think viewers will find it enjoyable."Chae Soo-bin said, "The lines were not easy, and there were many parts that could have easily become too cheesy. But Kim Young-kwang expressed them very calmly and well. It was fun to see him get shy and struggle." Kim Young-kwang recalled, "Chae Soo-bin acted out scenes from old dramas in the play, and she did it so well, as if she was possessed. I watched her, amazed, and had a lot of fun filming."Finally, Director Park said, "This story is indeed 'familiar taste.' But I didn't want to try hard to make it a 'different taste.' Ultimately, I believe that 'familiar taste' is the most formidable and possesses immense power. There are scenes in romantic comedies that are a must-have, and I think we kept looking for something different even in those scenes. There will be a special quality created by our synergy."'Please Charge Me,' consisting of a total of 10 episodes, will be released in its entirety on Netflix on the 9th.subin7134@tf.co.kr[Entertainment Department | ssent@tf.co.kr]
