She is filling pages with unforgettable first moments, discussing happiness with the audience through her screen debut film, "All We Imagine as Light."A press conference for the film "All We Imagine as Light" (Director Pema Tseden), officially invited to the Asian Cinema Competition section of the 31st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), was held on the afternoon of the 7th at the BIFF Hill of the Busan Cinema Center. Director Pema Tseden, along with (G)I-DLE member and actress SHUHUA, Jin Sun, Chae Beom-hee, producer Clipper de Miu, and Lin Han Zhang, attended the event to answer reporters' questions and share various stories."All We Imagine as Light" is a film that depicts the story of a peaceful daily life being shaken when a stray cat appears one day to two sisters with completely different personalities. Pema Tseden, who received the Best New Director Award, the FIPRESCI Award, and the Audience Award for her first feature film "American Girl" (2021) at the Golden Horse Awards, a Chinese-language film festival, directed the film.Director Pema Tseden, who visited Busan as a tourist three years ago, expressed her unique feelings about returning as a filmmaker. She continued, "The word 'happiness' appears repeatedly in the film. I paid attention when translating it into English, but there was no perfect equivalent, so I used 'joy,' 'happy,' and 'happiness.' I wanted to discuss various forms of happiness. I believe it includes not only positivity but also contemplation, fear, and bewilderment."This is Pema Tseden's second film, released five years after "American Girl." She stated, "Many women around me are contemplating whether to get married or have children. They are intelligent and excel at their jobs, but they falter when faced with important life questions. Therefore, I wanted to portray women through the two sisters." She confidently highlighted the film's unique charm, saying, "While my previous film conveyed emotions directly, this one deals with subtle and indirect emotions.""All We Imagine as Light" is a film that depicts the story of a peaceful daily life being shaken when a stray cat appears one day to two sisters with completely different personalities. She expressed her excitement, saying, "I was really nervous at first, but I felt more anticipation than nervousness. It's an honor to be at a major film festival with my first work. I'm curious to see how the audience will watch the film and what their reactions will be."In the film, Kitty is the youngest daughter with a bright and innocent personality. After encountering a stray cat, she experiences various emotions in her relationship with her sister and gradually changes. Shuhua, who plays Kitty, explained her acting focus: "I think her brave personality is similar to mine. As she was a character searching for happiness, I contemplated what happiness is, with both anticipation and concern."We were also curious about what charm of Shuhua attracted Director Pema Tseden to cast her as Kitty. She, who has been asked this question frequently, replied, "Actually, Shuhua has been acting for a long time. I believe the time she has spent with cameras is longer than the time we have spent with our families. I think she chose this role herself."Director Pema Tseden added, "Most protagonists are positive, proactive, and driven, but Kitty is not. Therefore, I thought Shuhua's personal charm could offset Kitty's wandering nature." She also mentioned, "The fact that she is actually the second of three sisters also aligns well with the film."The 31st Busan International Film Festival will be held until the 15th at the Busan Cinema Center and various locations in Busan. Therefore, being conscious of the camera is not difficult. However, on stage, I have to show myself, but on screen, I have to convey many emotions through subtle expressions, so I had many concerns."Jin Sun said, "I shed tears in many scenes while reading the script. The character's situation and the problems she faced were similar to my past concerns and challenges, so I could empathize with her situation." She explained her reason for choosing the project. What was her acting chemistry like with Shuhua, with whom she played sisters? Jin Sun commented, "I didn't know much about Shuhua's idol image, so I had no preconceived notions and was able to get to know her anew. We grew closer by sharing our concerns and challenges, and this relationship further developed during rehearsals. I'm grateful that Shuhua trusted me."The 31st Busan International Film Festival, where you can see Shuhua's screen debut film "All We Imagine as Light," will be held until the 15th at the Busan Cinema Center and various locations in Busan.jiyoon-1031@tf.co.kr[Entertainment Department | ssent@tf.co.kr]
