'Assassin(s)' surpasses 2.58 million cumulative viewers, continues to lead the box office

The movie ″Assassin(s)″ topped the overall box office with a cumulative audience of 2,584,872 as of 7 a.m. on the 9th. According to the Korea Film Council’s integrated ticketing system, ″Assassin(s)″ continued its streak as the number one Korean film in advance ticket sales for 25 consecutive days, maintaining its strong performance into its third week since release. ″Assassin(s)″ is based on the true story of the late Mrs. Yuk Young-soo’s assassination attempt and follows the investigation into the suspicions and background of the August 15, 1974 assassination attempt on the First Lady of South Korea. While the film faced criticism from some political circles and civic groups regarding its approach and interpretation of the historical event, this did not affect its box office success. Meanwhile, ″Gekijoban Chiikawa: Mermaid Island’s Secret″ attracted 55,242 viewers, ranking second at the box office, with a cumulative audience of 873,590. Following were ″Tazza: The Belzebub’s Song″ with 33,301 viewers in third place, and ″Look Back″ and ″Odyssey″ with 20,556 and 15,428 viewers respectively.
