BTS V’s ‘Slow Dancing’ Surpasses 600 Million Spotify Streams

The Layover title track becomes the fourth release in V’s solo catalog to reach the milestone, according to Sports Donga.

More than three years after its release, V’s “Slow Dancing” has reached another streaming milestone.

Sports Donga reported on October 14 that the BTS member’s solo track surpassed 600 million streams on Spotify. The achievement brings renewed attention to the relaxed, soul-inspired sound that defined his debut solo album, Layover.

Rather than relying on an explosive chorus, “Slow Dancing” gives V’s voice room to settle into an unhurried groove. Its extended instrumental ending remains one of the song’s most distinctive features.

Four Releases Reach the 600 Million Mark

According to Sports Donga, “Slow Dancing” follows “Love Me Again,” “FRI(END)S” and “Winter Ahead” in surpassing 600 million Spotify streams.

The milestone therefore makes it the fourth release in V’s solo catalog to reach that total. “Winter Ahead” is a collaboration with Park Hyo-shin, a distinction worth preserving when describing the achievement.

Two of the four tracks, “Slow Dancing” and “Love Me Again,” come from Layover, connecting the latest streaming news directly to V’s first solo album.

The Sound That Defined Layover

Released on September 8, 2023, Layover introduced a musical direction built around V’s interest in understated vocals and a relaxed atmosphere.

BIGHIT MUSIC’s original album announcement described “Slow Dancing,” its focus track, as a song in the style of 1970s romantic soul, with a laid-back and free-spirited feel.

The track’s pop and R&B elements sit alongside jazz-influenced textures. V’s soft delivery keeps the performance intimate, while the flute-led closing section allows the instrumental arrangement to take over.

That ending gives the song an unusual sense of space. Instead of building toward a final vocal climax, it lets the mood linger.

A Strong Start on International Charts

“Slow Dancing” also made an immediate impact when it arrived in 2023.

The song debuted at No. 51 on the Billboard Hot 100, according to contemporaneous reporting by Yonhap.

In the United Kingdom, Official Charts records confirm that it entered both the Official Singles Sales Chart and the Official Singles Downloads Chart at No. 1 for the week of September 15 to 21, 2023.

Those were sales and download rankings, separate from the overall UK Official Singles Chart.

The newly reported Spotify total adds a cumulative listening milestone to that release-week chart performance.

Editor’s Note: Listen to Layover as a Complete Record

BIGHIT MUSIC’s original announcement presented Layover as six tracks: five songs and a piano version of “Slow Dancing.” It also encouraged listeners to follow the album’s sequence from beginning to end.

That framing helps explain the title track’s place within the project. “Slow Dancing” is part of an album designed around a consistent mood, with the piano version offering another interpretation of the same song.

From an editorial perspective, its spacious arrangement makes it a useful introduction to V’s solo sound. The reported 600 million streams measure accumulated plays rather than individual listeners, but they mark a substantial listening total for a song first released in 2023.
