An Chi-hwan Overcomes Stage 3 Colorectal Cancer, "Best Physical Condition of My Life"... Holds 40th Anniversary Concert

Singer An Chi-hwan shared his changed perspective on music and life as he celebrates his 40th anniversary since debut. He appeared on the 47th episode of MBN’s ″Kim Ju-ha’s Day & Night″ and revealed his experience of battling stage 3 colorectal cancer diagnosed 10 years ago. At the time, he was trying to take care of his health when he received the cancer diagnosis, and he disclosed that he lost more than 15 kg during the treatment process. After fighting cancer, An Chi-hwan said his attitude toward life also changed. Reflecting on his past, he admitted to having been strict and sharp, saying, ″I thought I should become more generous and broader.″ Regarding his current health, he stated, ″I am in the best physical condition of my entire life,″ adding, ″Living healthily is a courtesy to those who have supported me.″ There were also changes in his musical activities. An Chi-hwan explained that while his 14th album ″Human Realm″ in 2025 criticized societal hypocrisy and injustice, his recently released 15th album ″Seize the Day″ focuses on the preciousness of everyday life. Through the new song ″I Live Only Today,″ he revealed that unlike before when he sang about the realities of the era with songs like ″Iron Worker″ and ″Sol-a Sol-a Blue Pine,″ he now concentrates more on individual life and inner self. He also shared an anecdote about receiving criticism as a ″traitor″ after gaining popular acclaim with lyrical songs such as ″If I Were″ and ″People Are More Beautiful Than Flowers.″ In response, An Chi-hwan questioned, ″’If I Were’ and ’People Are More Beautiful Than Flowers’ are very beautiful and good songs. Why is it wrong to sing such songs?″ He added, ″The world changes, so songs cannot always have the same content.″ He explained that he did not abandon his previous music but expanded the scope of his music. An Chi-hwan will hold a ″40th Anniversary 15th Album Release Commemorative Concert″ in Seoul on November 7. ″Kim Ju-ha’s Day & Night″ airs every Saturday night at 9:40 PM.
