Cha Ye-ryun's side denies school violence allegations: "Baseless"

Actress Cha Ye-ryun denied the allegations of school violence, while her husband Joo Sang-wook’s past remarks have come back into the spotlight. On October 30, Cha Ye-ryun’s agency HB Entertainment officially stated that the school violence allegations circulating online are ″groundless.″ The allegations began on October 29 when a user named A posted on an online community, ″Please stop the activities of the 1985-born actress who is a school violence perpetrator.″ A claimed to have been continuously bullied and assaulted by the actress during middle school, stating that the harassment occurred repeatedly at school, in the bathroom, and near the school, and that the assaults caused damage to their eardrum. A also said that despite the passage of time, the mental anguish continues and demanded an apology and suspension of activities from the actress. A revealed a 2001 graduation album from Junggye Middle School, and some netizens pointed to Cha Ye-ryun based on age and education. However, the connection between the claims and Cha Ye-ryun has not been confirmed. Joo Sang-wook, Cha Ye-ryun’s husband, expressed his stance on school violence in an interview following the July conclusion of the SBS drama ″Chief Kim.″ Playing the villain Joo Kang-chan, who was involved in a school violence incident in the drama, Joo said as a father raising a daughter, ″Just thinking about it is terrifying,″ and added, ″If any incident related to school violence happens in the future, whether the perpetrator or the victim, I think I will take drastic measures. I don’t think I would let my child continue attending that school.″ He also clarified, ″In reality, that shouldn’t happen,″ distinguishing between his character in the drama and his actual position. This statement was made about three months before the allegations involving Cha Ye-ryun surfaced and was not a direct comment on the current issue. Cha Ye-ryun and Joo Sang-wook married in 2017 and have one daughter.
