'You Quiz' Jay Black reveals behind-the-scenes of A2O LITE 'NEON' choreography

Jay Black appeared on the tvN variety show ″You Quiz on the Block″ and revealed the process and behind-the-scenes story of creating the intro choreography for the group A2O LITE’s ″NEON.″ On the broadcast, Jay Black explained that he did not work on the ″NEON″ choreography alone but created it together with team members who started as his students and are now his colleagues. He said, ″This is the first time so many people have liked my dance. It feels like I’m a rookie.″ He expressed that he felt he had found a new position as a choreographer rather than just a dancer. Regarding his experience with idol choreography, Jay Black stated, ″It’s not that I haven’t done idol choreography before. But my dance was too difficult, so many ideas fell apart at the draft stage. I worked on one or two pieces, but they didn’t become a big topic.″ He also recalled that he had previously attempted to create choreography for idols but either the ideas were scrapped at the draft stage or they did not attract much attention. In particular, he mentioned that during the creation of the ″NEON″ choreography, producer Lee Soo-man requested that it be made more difficult and flashy. Jay Black initially adjusted the difficulty and sent a draft, but Lee Soo-man demanded a higher level of difficulty. He said, ″This is the first time I made such difficult choreography for idols.″ He added, ″Mr. Lee Soo-man showed confidence, saying, ’Our kids are good. They can do it,’ and I was surprised that Siri and Aiching followed the choreography well from the first day.″ He also referred to the kicking choreography for Aiching, which Lee Soo-man personally completed, saying, ″I thought, ’So this is how people change it to something everyone likes, even the choreography.’ It gave me goosebumps.″ He showed trust and affection for Siri and Aiching for performing the ″NEON″ intro well. Jay Black mentioned the recent trend of increasing difficulty in idol choreography, saying he found ATEEZ’s ″Bad″ difficult and that when he received the proposal for the ″NEON″ choreography, he raised the difficulty level accordingly. Meanwhile, the rookie girl group A2O LITE from A2O Entertainment made their presence felt in the music industry by topping the music charts upon debut. Jay Black revealed that he did not expect the ″NEON″ choreography to become so popular, saying, ″I didn’t expect this choreography to blow up at all. I was just grateful to be able to do what I could. I thought, ’What big hit?’″ When asked if he had received new requests after the choreography gained attention, he answered, ″Not at all.″
