“I Wish We Had a Song Like G-Dragon’s”

Speaking at the media showcase for Kim Chang Wan Band’s new single album Seventy, Kim shared a lighthearted but sincere thought.

He said that seeing audiences chant along so passionately at younger artists’ concerts, especially G-Dragon’s, made him wonder whether a similar moment could happen at his own shows. Joking about his age, he added that he was not sure if a “grandfather on stage” could pull off a massive crowd chant, but the idea stayed with him.

The remark reflected both admiration and curiosity rather than competition.

How G-Dragon Sparked a New Song Idea

Kim explained that he once shared a stage with G-Dragon, and that experience left a strong impression. Watching fans sing every line together made him want to create a song that could be shouted joyfully by everyone in the venue.

That motivation directly influenced the track “Love You,” included in the new single album. The song was intentionally written with simple lyrics and an upbeat energy, making it easy for audiences of all ages to join in.

Respect Across Generations

While Kim Chang Wan is widely regarded as a pillar of Korean rock history, he spoke warmly about younger artists who are shaping today’s music scene. Alongside G-Dragon, he mentioned artists like Beenzino, Touched, and Lee Seung Yoon as musicians he personally enjoys and respects.

Rather than seeing them as juniors, Kim described them as artists already walking paths he once dreamed of. In that sense, he said, it is the younger generation that gives him hope.

A Comeback With Meaning

Seventy marks Kim Chang Wan Band’s first new release in ten years. The album reflects on aging, life, and joy, blending introspection with playful optimism.

G-Dragon’s influence may come from a very different genre and era, but Kim’s comments show how powerful fan connection and shared emotion remain universal in music, regardless of age or style.

The single Seventy was released digitally on January 27, with vinyl editions scheduled for preorder starting January 28.
