Reality TV can turn ordinary people into overnight celebrities but it can also bring unexpected pressure.
For Choi Minasue, one of the most talked-about contestants from Netflix’s Single’s Inferno 5, the hardest part of the attention wasn’t the negative comments online.
It was seeing how worried her parents became.
In a recent interview, the reality star reflected on the wave of criticism she faced after the show aired and explained why her family’s reaction affected her more than the hate comments themselves.
Choi Minasue shared her experience in an interview video released on the YouTube channel “One Mic” on February 28.
After filming Single’s Inferno 5, she returned to the United States to finish her semester at school. At first, she said life felt normal.
That changed once the show started streaming.
“I was just going to school without thinking much about it,” she recalled.

The moment she realized the show had changed things happened during a simple errand.
“When I was paying for something, the staff member told me they were a fan,” she said.
After that moment, she began noticing more people recognizing her, which made her feel hesitant about going out in public.
During the interview, Choi Minasue also addressed one of the small details that drew attention during the show the Zara dress she wore on Single’s Inferno 5.
According to her, the outfit had a very personal story.
“My mom picked it for me,” she said.
The comment amused many viewers who had discussed the dress online while the show aired.

Choi Minasue also spoke openly about the negative comments she received early in the show’s broadcast.
She revealed that during the first three weeks of the season, there were many harsh reactions online.
However, she decided not to close the comment section on her Instagram account.
Instead, she left it open because she wanted to reflect on her actions.
“Looking back, there were moments where I could have done better,” she said.
“If I wanted to reflect, I thought it was right to keep the comments open.”

Despite the criticism, Choi Minasue said the comments themselves were not what hurt her the most.
What affected her more was how worried her parents became.
She explained that her father was especially concerned after seeing the reactions online.
To reassure him, she tried to comfort him instead.
“It’s okay. I’m your daughter, right? Things will get better by the end,” she told him.
Meanwhile, her mother tried to lighten the situation with humor.
According to Choi Minasue, her mother told her:
“I didn’t know you were this funny. You’re really entertaining.”
She believes her mother stayed positive because she didn’t want to make the situation harder for her.
While Choi Minasue received criticism during the show, many viewers say their opinions changed after watching the entire season and hearing her perspective in interviews.
Under the interview video, numerous comments praised her honesty and personality.
Some fans wrote that they watched the season mainly because of her, while others said she “carried the season” or brought energy to the show.
Many viewers also complimented her natural charm and appearance, calling her one of the most memorable contestants of the season.
Others encouraged her not to be hurt by negative comments, saying they hoped she would continue appearing in future programs.
During Single’s Inferno 5, Choi Minasue became one of the season’s most talked-about personalities.
Some viewers described her as a “love-to-hate villain” a contestant whose actions sparked debate but kept audiences engaged.
Throughout the show, she consistently showed interest in fellow contestant Lee Seonghun, and the two ultimately chose each other in the final episode.
However, during the later Single’s Inferno reunion special, they clarified that they were not dating in real life.
Even so, Choi Minasue’s presence became one of the defining elements of the season proving that sometimes the most controversial contestants also become the most unforgettable.
