The beloved global animated hit “K-Pop Demon Hunters” has been officially confirmed to return with a sequel by Maggie Kang herself. The announcement has quickly sparked excitement among fans worldwide, many of whom had been hoping the story would continue after the film’s massive global success.
Director Maggie Kang expressed deep pride in how the film resonated globally, particularly having a story that focuses on the Korean culture.
“I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters,” Kang said. “There’s so much more to this world we have built and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning.”
The original film stood out for its unique blend of K-pop idol culture, Korean mythology, and supernatural action, introducing audiences to a story where global pop stars secretly fight demons while navigating fame and friendship and …romance.
Co-director Chris Appelhans also shared his emotional connection to the project and hinted at how the sequel will deepen the story.
“These characters are like family to us, their world has become our second home,” Appelhans said. “We’re excited to write their next chapter, challenge them and watch them evolve — and continue pushing the boundaries of how music, animation and story can come together.”
While specific plot details have not yet been revealed, the sequel is expected to expand the world introduced in the original film, exploring new storylines and possibly even bigger musical moments. The first “K-Pop Demon Hunters” quickly became a global fan favorite thanks to its soundtrack, visually striking animation and culturally rich storytelling inspired by Korean traditions. The film was appreciated domestically and globally winning some of the highest awards such as Grammy and even getting nominated for the Academy Awards.
Now, with the sequel officially in development, fans can look forward to a new chapter in the demon hunting saga as the creators stated in a simple message that “This is only the beginning”.
