BTS has released the animated teaser inspired by the Korean folk song “Arirang” allowing fans to take a look into the concept behind the group’s upcoming fifth studio album, ARIRANG. On March 13, BigHit Music released the animated video through BTS’ official social media channels, introducing the cultural theme that will anchor the group’s highly anticipated comeback.
The animation opens in 1896 showing the BTS members gathered around a phonograph. As the machine begins to play, the melody of “Arirang,” Korea’s most iconic folk song fills the scene. The story then follows the characters as they travel across the Pacific Ocean, recording the song abroad and sharing it with people in a foreign land.

The narrative eventually transitions to the present day, where BTS appears on stage, performing in front of a cheering crowd under glowing purple lights. The animation concludes with the group standing confidently in front of Gwanghwamun, symbolizing their role in sharing Korean culture with the world through music.

According to BigHit Music, the concept was inspired by historical records stating that “Arirang” was first recorded in Washington, D.C., in 1896. By referencing that moment, the animation highlights how the song and Korean culture more broadly has traveled across generations and borders. “We wanted to share the story behind ‘Arirang’ with people who may not know the song,” BigHit Music said. “We hope more listeners will explore its lyrics and connect with the emotions embedded in this traditional Korean melody.”
BTS’ fifth full length album ‘ARIRANG’ will be released on March 20 at 1 p.m. KST. The album features 14 tracks produced under the supervision of HYBE chairman Bang Si-hyuk, aiming to capture the group’s current musical identity. The following day, March 21, BTS will hold a special performance titled “BTS Comeback Live: Arirang” at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul, which will be streamed globally on Netflix.
