Choi Won-young reveals behind-the-scenes of father role and 2nd place in 'Spacing Out Contest' on 'Radio Star'

Choi Won-young appeared on MBC’s ″Radio Star″ and revealed the lineage of the ″confident married man″ image that has continued since his single days, along with various behind-the-scenes stories. The broadcast on August 5 will feature a special titled ″Between Fᅢshion and Pᅢssion, I’m So Hip~″ with Choi Won-young, Lee Tae-ran, Bada, and Cortis Martin. Choi Won-young shared his experience of taking on father roles from his late 30s before marrying actress Shim Yi-young. He first played a father role in writer Kim Eun-sook’s drama ″The Heirs,″ and although he was concerned because the actor playing his son was only about 10 years younger than him in real life, he accepted the role encouraged by Kim Eun-sook’s confident response. Following the success of ″The Heirs,″ he consecutively took on father roles in dramas such as ″SKY Castle″ and ″Hwarang,″ and he also shared behind-the-scenes stories about playing Lee Kwang-soo’s father in ″Hwarang.″ He also revealed that he recently placed second in a ″spacing out contest.″ He explained that about 70 contestants participated in the finals, and the ranking was determined by combining heart rate, public votes, and performance scores. The day before the contest, he rehearsed at home aiming for first place, and during the actual contest, he spaced out for about an hour and 30 minutes wearing the outfit he had prepared. Regarding the fashion he showcased at the contest, he explained that he wore floral socks on one side and mismatched shoes—a dress shoe and a sneaker—to express the ″sorrow of office workers.″ Choi Won-young stated that he personally considers the clothing concept for his characters and, if it is difficult to find the necessary clothes, he searches for them himself or dyes them. He revealed that about 50% of the clothes he wore in the JTBC drama ″Everyone is Fighting Their Own Worthlessness″ were purchased by himself, and he also wore clothes he prepared himself in ″SKY Castle.″ He emphasized that clothing is an important element in completing a character and expressed his conviction that he does not regret investing money for his characters. He also shared stories about feeling liberated at past drama wrap-up parties, freely choosing the clothes he wanted to wear, which earned him nicknames like ″wrap-up party villain″ and ″fashion henchman.″ Additionally, he gifted Cortis Martin an outfit he made by remodeling clothes he was going to throw away, and Martin wore it to an impromptu fashion show, showcasing a cross-generational fashion chemistry.
