G-Dragon agency sues about 100 malicious rumor spreaders...court imposes fines on some

Galaxy Corporation, the agency of G-Dragon, has disclosed the progress of legal actions against individuals who wrote and distributed malicious posts. On the 4th, the agency announced in an official statement that based on evidence secured through fan reports and internal monitoring, they have filed complaints against about 100 people who wrote or distributed malicious posts related to G-Dragon for violations of the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc. (defamation). The agency explained that through raids on major online communities and social networking service (SNS) platforms, they identified multiple suspects, who have been transferred to the police stations with jurisdiction over their addresses and are currently under investigation. Currently, many cases are being handled by investigative agencies and courts, and in some cases, suspects’ criminal charges have been acknowledged, resulting in referral to the prosecution or criminal trials. The court has issued summary orders imposing fines ranging from 2 million to 7 million KRW on multiple defendants, and in separate cases, the prosecution has requested summary orders for fines, indicating ongoing substantive criminal procedures, the agency stated. It was also added that some suspects have been indicted and sent to trial after their charges were recognized. The agency emphasized, ″This result shows that even when using anonymous accounts, tracking can lead to actual criminal punishment,″ and stated that they will hold those responsible accountable to the end in ongoing cases, responding strictly with a zero-tolerance policy without any leniency or settlements. They also warned that not only the original creators of malicious posts but also those who repeatedly transmit, expand, or reproduce such content are clearly committing illegal acts subject to legal action. They added that even if posts are deleted or accounts are made private or changed, legal procedures will continue based on the secured evidence. Furthermore, the agency pledged to do their utmost to protect the rights and interests of the artist so that they can work in a healthy and stable environment. Meanwhile, G-Dragon is set to meet fans with the group Big Bang’s new world tour, ″XX : COSMOS,″ from the 21st to the 23rd at the Goyang Sports Complex Main Stadium in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, celebrating their 20th debut anniversary.
