Hwang Jung-min and Ms. A's legal battle intensifies... 62 recorded calls and a restraining order issued

The conflict surrounding the private relationship between actor Hwang Jung-min and woman A has escalated into a legal dispute. After Hwang Jung-min filed a complaint accusing A of stalking, the court issued three provisional restraining orders against A and an order for a fine of 3 million won for stalking charges. In response, A requested a formal trial and also filed a lawsuit seeking damages against Hwang Jung-min. A claimed that she had 77 phone calls with Hwang Jung-min from May 2024 to May 2025, stating that Hwang Jung-min initiated 62 of those calls. Based on this fact and selfies she received, A asserted that there was private interaction between the two. On the other hand, Hwang Jung-min’s side explained that he reluctantly sent photos due to psychological pressure from A’s repeated requests and mentions of extreme actions, and that he refused all meetings in confined spaces and demands for drinking. According to reports from multiple media outlets including Dispatch on the 6th, analysis of 62 recorded phone calls (about 163,000 characters) and messenger conversations between Hwang Jung-min and A revealed that the main purpose of Hwang Jung-min’s calls was to request ″contact cessation″ and ″ending the relationship.″ The recordings included Hwang Jung-min pleading, ″Please let me live,″ ″Don’t send messages recklessly late at night,″ and ″It’s uncomfortable,″ expressing his desire to sever ties. He reportedly used expressions such as ″Stop texting,″ ″I don’t want to meet,″ ″Let’s cut ties,″ and ″It’s burdensome,″ asking A to stop contacting him. Reports also indicated that Hwang Jung-min continued the calls due to psychological pressure from A. When A mentioned extreme actions, Hwang Jung-min responded, ″Don’t say such serious things, that’s a threat.″ The sending of selfies was also done following A’s repeated requests. Hwang Jung-min proposed meeting at a preview screening, but A refused and only requested photos. Regarding the release of the call recordings, A claimed, ″The parts where Hwang Jung-min says ’stop calling’ were selectively excerpted,″ and insisted that Hwang Jung-min called again after those remarks. She explained that meetings in confined spaces or demands for 24-hour accompaniment were distortions originating from jokes. She also denied allegations of monetary demands for settlement and planned exposure aimed at upcoming releases, stating, ″From 2025, I only requested confidential, non-monetary face-to-face negotiations through lawyers.″ Regarding the settlement proposal, she countered that Hwang Jung-min’s side first approached her in July, before the release of the film Hope, to propose a settlement, but there was no response afterward. A demanded through social media that Hwang Jung-min’s side stop media manipulation, claiming they are unilaterally portraying themselves as victims. She also stated, ″Answer the civil lawsuit for damages. The tactic of filing a criminal complaint first to silence someone is already well known in this field,″ expressing her intention to continue the legal battle. Hwang Jung-min’s agency, Sam Company, maintained their previous position and stated that legal procedures are ongoing. Hwang Jung-min’s lawyer said it is difficult to respond as the lawsuit is in progress. The agency also announced plans for additional legal action, claiming that A posted maliciously edited content. Meanwhile, legal experts pointed out that if A publicly discloses the recordings to an unspecified number of people, she could face civil and criminal liabilities such as defamation or invasion of privacy. With conflicting claims from both sides, it is expected that the court will make a judgment through the criminal trial and the damages lawsuit.
