Lee Hwi-hyang: "Marriage was more important than my career"... The reason she chose her husband over 'Chief Inspector'

Lee Hwi-hyang revealed the reason she chose marriage over her career as an actress. On the 22nd, she appeared on MBN’s ″Kim Ju-ha’s Day & Night″ and shared that although she was cast in the drama ″Investigation Chief″ early in her debut, she met her husband six months later and decided to get married. Lee Hwi-hyang said, ″I believed that an actor should be a stage actor. Marriage was more important than this (drama),″ explaining that she stopped acting for the sake of marriage. She added, ″A woman’s face reveals everything over time. Since everything shows on my face, there is no need for me to hide anything.″ Recalling the Miss MBC selection process, Lee Hwi-hyang said she participated in the contest at the encouragement of her peers during her sophomore year of college when financial support such as scholarships was cut off. She explained that the prize money was 1 million won at the time, and she debuted as a 14th generation public recruitment talent after winning second place. Lee Hwi-hyang married the late Kim Du-jo, who was known to have a background in organized crime and was 19 years her senior, and they had a son. After their marriage, Kim Du-jo left his life in organized crime, ran a gym business, and pursued a career as a singer before passing away from lung cancer in September 2005. According to TV Chosun’s variety show ″Modern History of Figures Mr. Lee″ aired last year, he reportedly donated assets worth approximately 4 billion won, including real estate and cultural relics, to a university before his death.
