SEVENTEEN’s DK Enlists in the Army After a Playful Goodbye to CARATs

The SEVENTEEN vocalist entered active-duty military service on September 8, leaving fans with a shaved head, a mischievous smile and one reassuring promise.

SEVENTEEN’s DK has officially begun his mandatory military service.

The vocalist enlisted as an active-duty soldier in the South Korean Army on September 8. Shortly before entering the training center, he shared a simple message with fans: “I’ll return safely and in good health.”

The words were brief, but the accompanying photographs felt unmistakably like DK.

With his newly shaved head on full display, he posed shirtless and pulled a series of playful expressions for the camera. Instead of presenting the moment as an overly dramatic farewell, he approached it with the bright humor that has long made him one of SEVENTEEN’s most comforting personalities.

For CARATs, the photographs carried two emotions at once. They made his departure feel real, but they also offered one last reason to smile.

PLEDIS Asked Fans Not to Visit the Training Center

PLEDIS Entertainment previously confirmed that DK would enlist on September 8 and complete his service as an active-duty soldier.

The agency said he would participate in all scheduled official activities before his enlistment. It also asked fans not to visit the training center, explaining that the entrance ceremony is shared by numerous recruits and their families.

Instead, CARATs were encouraged to leave their farewell messages and support through Weverse.

“Please send your messages of farewell and support for the members on Weverse,” the company stated. It also asked fans to continue supporting DK until he completes his service and returns in good health.

Requests like this are common when Korean celebrities enlist. Military training centers are working facilities rather than public fan-event venues, and large crowds can inconvenience other recruits and their relatives.

Respecting the request gives fans a practical way to support DK from a distance.

Fans Will Not Completely Lose Touch With Him

DK will be unable to participate in SEVENTEEN’s official activities while serving, but PLEDIS has already prepared material for the period of his absence.

The company confirmed that fans will continue seeing DK through various pieces of content recorded in advance.

That preparation has become increasingly important during SEVENTEEN’s military-service era. With members temporarily stepping away at different times, pre-recorded videos, music and other projects help preserve the group’s connection with CARATs.

The content cannot replace a live performance or spontaneous Weverse broadcast, but it means DK’s familiar voice and personality will not suddenly disappear from SEVENTEEN’s world.

A Particularly Emotional Goodbye for Vocal-Team Fans

DK has always occupied a special position within SEVENTEEN.

As one of the group’s main vocalists, he is responsible for many of its most emotionally powerful moments. His clear tone can carry soaring choruses, but he can also soften it for more intimate songs.
