[TF Focus] CRAVITY, The Great Resonance Created by Six Years of Waves

Release of 9th mini-album 'sonorous' on September 30thAn album where accumulated time and results overlap into a single resonanceCRAVITY released their 9th mini-album 'sonorous' on September 30th. This album is a culmination of CRAVITY's journey, having expanded their spectrum through numerous albums, strengthened their stage presence, and increased their involvement in album production, all converging into a single resonance. /Starship Entertainment[THE FACT | Reporter Jeong Byung-geun] They have grown as much as the albums they've released. While it may be a common phrase, it perfectly describes the boy group CRAVITY.Debuting in April 2020, CRAVITY (SERIM ALLEN JUNGMO WOOBIN WONJIN MINHEE HYUNGJUN TAEYOUNG SEONGMIN) has released nine mini-albums over the past six years, and their discography is packed with full-length albums, singles, Japanese releases, and English tracks. The important thing isn't the numbers. Through these numerous albums, they have broadened their spectrum, enhanced their stage power, and increased their participation in album production.Their 9th mini-album 'sonorous,' released on September 30th, is an album where their accumulated time has converged into a single resonance. The starting point was intense. From their debut album, in the 'HIDEOUT' trilogy, CRAVITY showcased raw energy and flawless choreography. It was a period that proved how much energy nine members could generate as a single team. Performance became CRAVITY's most solid foundation from this point on.Afterward, they tested the limits of how far they could expand that energy. In "Gas Pedal," the title track of their first full-length album Part 1, they accelerated further, pushing a rough and powerful image. However, in the subsequent Part 2 title track "Adrenaline," they shifted to a brighter and more upbeat direction. This confirmed that intensity wasn't CRAVITY's only weapon. The change solidified into the group's distinct color after their 4th mini-album 'NEW WAVE' in 2022. Starting with "PARTY ROCK," CRAVITY began choosing music and stages they could genuinely enjoy, rather than just showcasing power. The combination of funky rhythms, bright vocals, and the energy of free-spirited youth created a clear impression of "Cheongnyang-vity" (a portmanteau of 'cheongnyang' meaning refreshing and 'CRAVITY').Continuing this trend through their 6th mini-album, they evolved from a group known for synchronized dancing to one that enjoys the stage while maintaining perfect harmony. With their 7th mini-album 'EVERSHINE,' they changed direction. The title track "Love or Die" was rougher and more mature than before. It pushed the emotion of love to extreme longing, embracing not only bright, shining youth but also the anxiety, obsession, and darkness within it. They didn't abandon their refreshing image but rather expanded the range of emotions expressed within the broader framework of 'youth.''sonorous' means 'deep and rich sounding, resounding.' This album takes it a step further, with 'resonance' as its central keyword. /Starship EntertainmentThe capabilities they built led to their victory in Mnet's 'Road to Kingdom: ACE OF ACE' in 2024, followed by a significant turning point with the single album 'FIND THE ORBIT,' which told the story of finding their own orbit. While they initially ran forward blindly, they began to ask themselves where they wanted to go.That question became more concrete in their 2nd full-length album 'Dare to Crave' in 2025. CRAVITY newly imbued the meaning of 'CRAVE' into their group name, undertaking a change that was virtually a rebranding. The music also delved deeper inward, rather than outward with youthful bravado. All members participated in songwriting and composition, and they even attempted unit songs for the first time.CRAVITY, who began to contemplate and choose the music they wanted to create, depicted the process of constantly redefining themselves in their 8th mini-album 'ReDeFINE.' This is a meaningful outcome, as the group, celebrating their 6th anniversary, looked back at their present selves instead of repeating their past. What CRAVITY, who has become incredibly solid through that process, created is 'sonorous.' 'sonorous' means 'deep and rich sounding, resounding.' This album takes it a step further, with 'resonance' as its central keyword. The theme of this album is a natural next step in the journey CRAVITY has taken. The nine members learned to work together, looking in the same direction, discovered their individual colors, and each began to participate in the music in their own language. Now, they don't force those different voices into one. This album's approach is to overlap different waves to create a louder sound.'sonorous' begins with the heavy hip-hop of "Pulse," moves through the dark electronic dance of the title track "LOUDER," the lightly flowing "Lucky Charm," the blend of band sound and hip-hop in "LOVE ME," and the dreamy, driving "Seize The Night," with the mood continuously shifting until the final track.Music with colors that might have been scattered across different albums in the past are now placed within a single album, yet they don't feel disjointed. This is because the group's capacity has grown to the point where they can now embrace everything, having moved past the era of having to choose between intensity and refreshingness, or darkness and brightness. While changing the temperature and color of their music, CRAVITY has condensed all those experiences into the driving force for their next album. The accumulated results of these experiences have given birth to 'sonorous,' which is both a destination CRAVITY has arrived at and a new starting point from which to gauge how far its resonance will reach. /Starship EntertainmentThe title track "LOUDER" encapsulates this accumulation. The raw synths and drums evoke the powerful performances CRAVITY has excelled at since their debut, but the vocals flowing over them are much more delicate and dreamy. Instead of relentlessly pushing forward from beginning to end, it starts from a quiet point and gradually builds to an explosion. The very method of applying and releasing force has changed. In such changes, CRAVITY's strengths stand out even more. In addition to their existing strengths of rapid formation changes and synchronized choreography, they have added fluid dance lines and the expressiveness to interpret the mood of the song. The members' participation is even more concrete evidence of their growth. Wonjin, Allen, Serim, Hyungjun, and Taeyoung are credited as lyricists for "LOUDER," and Serim created "LOVE ME," Woobin created "Fantasy," and Taeyoung created "Odd One Out." Moving beyond participating in rap-making for a few songs, different members are now responsible for individual songs throughout the album, expressing their emotions and tastes. In particular, it is interesting that the three self-composed songs tell completely different stories: the anxiety of love, instinctive deviation, and self-selection beyond the standards of others. This aligns with the album's message that 'resonance' ultimately arises not from everyone making the same sound, but from different sounds meeting to create a greater echo.In that sense, 'sonorous' is not an album that shows one more thing they do well, but an album where everything they have done so far has finally met in one place. The strong energy from their debut, the bright and free youth found after 'NEW WAVE,' the dark emotions revealed in 'EVERSHINE,' the self-exploration deepened through 'Dare to Crave' and 'ReDeFINE,' and the increasing creative participation all coexist.Growth is not always a straight line upward. Sometimes, it requires changing direction, letting go of what you were good at, and finding what suits you while wavering. Only then do you become stronger. This has been CRAVITY's past six years. While changing the temperature and color of their music multiple times, they condensed all those experiences into the driving force for their next album. The accumulated results of these experiences have given birth to 'sonorous,' which is both a destination CRAVITY has arrived at and a new starting point from which to gauge how far its resonance will reach.kafka@tf.co.kr[Entertainment Department | ssent@tf.co.kr]
