Lee Chan-won, gifts parents ten times the first settlement money from 'Mr. Trot'... also gives father a car as a present

Singer Lee Chan-won revealed the story of giving their entire first settlement payment to their parents. Lee Chan-won appeared as a guest on episode 62 of the tvN STORY variety show ″What’s the Point of Leaving It Behind″ and recalled the days when they were challenging TV Chosun’s ″Mr. Trot.″ At that time, Lee Chan-won came to Seoul with money saved from part-time jobs but found living expenses were insufficient and borrowed 2 million won from their mother. They expressed gratitude, saying, ″Mom was worried but still sent the money. It must have been a lot of money for her.″ Lee Chan-won also shared an episode about preparing stage costumes before the ″Mr. Trot″ preliminaries. They went to an outlet to buy a navy suit, but the desired suit cost 500,000 won, while another suit was 300,000 won. Their mother recommended the 300,000 won suit, but Lee Chan-won wanted the 500,000 won one. In the end, after buying the 300,000 won suit, Lee Chan-won recalled not speaking with their mother on the bus ride home. After gaining recognition through ″Mr. Trot,″ Lee Chan-won decided to return the money to their mother as soon as they received their first settlement payment. With the intention of repaying the 2 million won borrowed from their mother tenfold, they sent the entire first settlement amount to their mother’s bank account. They explained, ″On the day I received my first settlement, I sent every last won to my mom’s account. The amount was more than ten times what I borrowed. The ’Mr. Trot’ appearance fee wasn’t much, but after appearing on several follow-up programs, I received several months’ worth of payments at once.″ They also mentioned that the next month’s settlement was given entirely to their father. Lee Chan-won said their mother has not spent the money but keeps it in a separate bank account. ″Mom still hasn’t spent the money and made a separate account to keep it. Of course, I’m grateful, but it’s frustrating. I gave it to her to use, so why can’t she?″ The conversation continued about their parents’ living situation. Lee Chan-won said their parents still live in the house they moved into 18 years ago, and although they wished their parents would move somewhere more comfortable given their age, the parents were reluctant. ″They said that if their son suddenly moved and changed to a nice car because he did well, it would be like tarnishing my reputation. They said they don’t want that.″ Regarding their father’s car, Lee Chan-won said it was changed after long persuasion. Their father had been driving a manual transmission vehicle for 17 years but changed cars at the end of last year. The tvN STORY show ″What’s the Point of Leaving It Behind,″ featuring Lee Chan-won, airs every Monday at 8 PM.
