A divorced housewife. A secret killer squad. And two of Korea’s most magnetic actresses stepping into a world built on noir grit rather than glossy melodrama TVING’s newest original has all the ingredients of a breakout hit.
On October 29, TVING unveiled the casting lineup for its upcoming original series Gracefully Killing You (고분고분한 킬러), confirming Kim Da-mi and Jo Bo-ah as the show’s central duo, joined by Jo Ah-ram, Kim Jae-wook, and Nam Yoon-su. The announcement immediately set social media buzzing — not just for the star power, but for the premise itself: a woman whose entire identity was built around being the perfect wife is forced to reinvent herself as a professional assassin after her marriage collapses.
At the center of the story is Go Dal-bun, played by Kim Da-mi, a woman for whom being a devoted wife and mother was once her sole life’s ambition. When her marriage ends in divorce, she loses custody leverage over her young daughter — and in a desperate bid to win her back, she enters the shadowy world of contract killing, joining an underground crew wryly nicknamed the “Ugly Trio.” Operating under the code name “Miss Go,” Dal-bun discovers an unexpected talent for violence hidden beneath years of domestic routine.
It’s a premise that taps into a theme Korean noir has increasingly embraced: the idea that the skills honed in “invisible” domestic labor vigilance, patience, emotional control, the ability to read a room instantly — translate disturbingly well into the art of killing. It’s not a coincidence that this narrative arrives in the same year MBC’s A Bona Fide Killer, starring Gong Hyo-jin as a married sniper hiding her secret life from her family, became one of 2026’s most talked-about dramas. Where that series examined marriage as camouflage, A Compliant Killer flips the premise: marriage’s end is what cracks the door open to a killer’s reinvention. Together, the two shows suggest Korean television has found a rich new vein — turning the domestic sphere into a genre’s most unlikely training ground.
For Kim Da-mi, the role marks a sharp pivot. Since breaking out as the fierce, unpredictable Koo Ja-yoon in Park Hoon-jung’s The Witch: Part 1 – The Subversion (2018), she’s become known for roles that balance vulnerability with ferocity most famously as Jo Yi-seo, the scene-stealing love interest in Itaewon Class (2020), and the gentler, more wistful lead of Our Beloved Summer (2021–2022). Gracefully Killing You appears to pull from both wells at once: a woman defined by softness on the surface who turns out to have The Witch‘s coiled danger underneath. If the premise lands, it could be the role that finally fuses the two sides of her range into a single, career-defining character.

Jo Bo-ah takes on “Miss Lee,” the leader and ace of the Ugly Trio a perfectionist who has sacrificed nearly everything in pursuit of being the best, as formidable mentally as she is physically. It’s a continuation of the steel-edged roles Jo Bo-ah has built her recent career on: the obsessive fox-spirit energy of Tale of the Nine-Tailed (2020), the hardened military investigator of Military Prosecutor Doberman (2022), and most recently the period drama Dear Hongrang (2025). A disciplined, ice-cold team leader is well within her established wheelhouse — but placing her opposite Kim Da-mi’s rookie energy sets up an instant mentor-mentee friction that noir ensembles thrive on, and pairs two actresses whose combined drama résumés span nearly every major genre on Korean television.
Rounding out the trio, Jo Ah-ram plays “Miss Gye,” the group’s resident wildcard part mood-maker, part troublemaker, nicknamed the “fighting rooster” for a volatility that keeps the team’s chemistry combustible. Beyond the trio, Kim Jae-wook joins in a special appearance as “Code Name Director Cha,” a gentleman whose soft-spoken courtesy conceals a man impossible to read. Nam Yoon-su plays rookie detective Jeong Jung-won, whose collision course with the killer squad promises a very different kind of tension: the thrill of a law-abiding outsider stumbling into a world he doesn’t yet understand.

Behind the camera, A Compliant Killer has assembled a team already fluent in turning genre concepts into ratings and streaming successes. Director Lee Jeong-heum, fresh off helming the hit drama Gyeongiya (구경이), takes the chair, while the screenplay comes from writer Joo Hwa-mi, known for Not Just a Hero (히어로는 아닙니다만). Rounding out the creative team is Kang Eun-kyung, serving as creator — the veteran writer behind Netflix’s genre hit Gyeongseong Creature. Her involvement signals that Gracefully Killing You, while pitched as a noir-action romp, likely won’t shy away from weightier emotional or social undertones beneath its genre trappings.
TVING has confirmed Gracefully Killing You will premiere sometime next year, though an exact date has not yet been announced. If the chemistry between Kim Da-mi and Jo Bo-ah holds up, and if the show manages to balance its pulpy “assassin housewife” premise with genuine emotional stakes, it could become one of the platform’s defining original series a noir fable about what a woman finds when everything she built her identity around is taken away, and what she’s capable of once she stops being compliant at all.
