RM "I Never Dreamed of Being a Global Star"... Leadership and the New Album 'Right Place, Wrong Person' Talk

RM, the leader of BTS, recently shared his thoughts on leadership and musical activities in an interview with British fashion designer Bella Freud. Despite BTS’s global success, RM said he did not initially dream of becoming a global star. He explained that while it is easy to get caught up in charts, numbers, and influence in the pop industry, he tries to distance himself from those elements and draw inspiration from nature and real life. He also mentioned the era of rapid changes such as Shorts and Reels, saying, ″The fastest era is the most frightening.″ Regarding his role as a leader, RM said, ″When everyone is lying on the sofa and the window is open, making it cold, someone has to close the window, but everyone is too comfortable to move.″ He explained that in such moments, one person standing up to close the window is the role of a leader. He added, ″If someone has to do it, I thought it should be me.″ Reflecting on his past leadership style, he recalled, ″For the first 8 to 9 years, I had a very strong and somewhat authoritarian leadership style.″ However, as the team grew and the members established their own names and careers, he changed his communication approach. RM shared that when members say, ″We know your efforts. We are really glad to have a leader like you,″ all the stress he had been carrying disappears. He also spoke about his second solo full-length album released in 2024, Right Place, Wrong Person. He explained, ″I have always lived with the thought that I have to do well, so with this album, I focused on becoming a little more comfortable and breaking free from always being tense.″ He continued, ″I think most people living in 2026 can feel this way. At work, you might feel, ’Am I the only one who is the wrong person?’ or ’Am I the only one who thinks or acts this way?’″ He said that everyone has probably experienced feeling either ″I am in the right place but feel like the wrong person″ or ″I am the right person but in the wrong place.″ He added, ″Thanks to cell phones and media, people are becoming more connected, but paradoxically, the number of people experiencing depression and loneliness is increasing.″
