EVAN declares the starting point of independence with the mini album 'DEATH OF ME'

Singer EVAN revealed a new beginning as a solo artist and musical challenges in a documentary covering the production process of the mini album ’DEATH OF ME.’ At a media showcase, EVAN expressed pride in the process of standing alone and stated that this album holds great meaning for him. He mentioned that his experience of receiving treatment has influenced who he is now and explained that there is a narrative of overcoming difficult times together with his fans. He shared the determination he had when creating ’Ride or Die’ and the emotions of the fans, saying he felt another kind of burden and pressure with the release of ’DEATH OF ME.’ He emphasized that through this album, he wanted to overcome the hardships he faced. The work on the song ’Death of Me’ was carried out remotely because EVAN was not in good physical condition and could not participate directly. He conveyed his story through video calls, focusing on bringing out the grandeur and energy of the song. The beginning of the song originated from ’Ride or Die,’ containing the thought that if he did not grow musically, he would face a ’musical death.’ He said the message in the song is, ″Even if I stop, this is not my death. I just have to get up and run again.″ He put a lot of effort into choreography and stage direction as well. The choreography for ’Death of Me’ was inspired by Michael Jackson, highlighting the charm of rhythm and movement, and he personally revised parts to enhance completeness. He valued harmony with the dancers and emphasized close collaboration on stage. In the music video, they aimed to show an overwhelming scale by using different spaces, applying various ideas to costumes, hair, and props. EVAN said about the emoji he uses as his symbol, ″I want to keep questioning what genre I want to pursue.″ The album track ’Not Enough’ honestly expresses the feelings of insufficiency and frustration experienced as a soloist. EVAN shared that through working with top foreign songwriters, he overcame fear and tried various attempts. The lyrics use Stephen Curry’s three-point shot as a metaphor, embodying a relentless desire to challenge himself. He described this album as a ’mirror,’ a process of facing himself. Additionally, ’Immature’ is a challenging track that attempts an alternative heavy metal sound rarely used in K-POP, and he said it was possible because it was made without overthinking. ’Noise’ is a song written to comfort himself amid surrounding noise, and EVAN said he found this song more difficult than ’Death of Me.’ He explained that the song requires technical aspects and diverse emotional expressions. The bright song ’Twilight’ originally started with the title ’Tattoos on your feet’ and was completed as a love song likened to twilight, inspired by a language only lovers can understand. The choreography is also composed of many foot steps and rhythmic movements, creating a visually exciting atmosphere. The song he is most attached to is ’Going Home.’ This song, made entirely by hand, expresses the desire to return to family and conveys the flow of emotions and the passage of time. EVAN expressed his wish to move and inspire his fans. Finally, EVAN emphasized that ’DEATH OF ME’ is a starting point and told fans that if they keep moving forward step by step without stopping, good moments will come.
